The principals provided the number of school days per year and the number of instructional hours per day, and the teachers provided the weekly amount of instruction in science. As explained in \u201cAbout the Measure,\u201d the data were combined to estimate yearly amounts of instructional time in science for each country. For countries teaching science as separate subjects at the eighth grade, the total included the amount of time spent on each individual science subject.
