Use and Impact of PIRLS

Spain participated in PIRLS 2006 and PIRLS 2011. Based on PIRLS results and those from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and national reading assessments, the government has launched national goals to promote reading across the curriculum and the use of libraries. The National Institute for Education Evaluation published a report of Spain’s PIRLS 2011 results and a secondary analysis report. Some of the actions taken at the national and regional levels to use the results include:

  • The publication of an official education newsletter on the National Institute for Education Evaluation’s website30
  • The dissemination of released items from PISA, TIMSS, and PIRLS31,32
  • Seminars in 2013 to disseminate TIMSS and PIRLS results to teachers, principals, and the educational community33
  • The second International External Evaluations forum regarding assessments including TIMSS and PIRLS in 201334
  • The conference Current National and International Perspectives in Educational Evaluation (Perspectivas Actuales Nacionales e Internacionales en Evaluación Educativa) in 201635
