Monitoring Student Progress in Reading

Primary school teachers evaluate individual student progress. The evaluation of student achievement in reading and in other subjects is ongoing and global and takes into account students’ progress in all areas of the curriculum. The evaluation criteria specified for a content area serve as the basis for determining the level of the key competencies attained. All students and their families receive a report explaining the level achieved in reading, mathematics, and writing.

Education authorities, within the framework of their respective subject areas, carry out whatever evaluation plans they consider appropriate. The autonomous communities have the responsibility of evaluating schools, taking into account the socioeconomic and cultural contexts of the parents and students, the school environment, and the resources available.
